The DualSense controller is built for gaming on the latest PS5 games with its use of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. DualSense’s use case grows as PlayStation bolsters its support for PC, however. Since the launch of PS5 in 2020, players have experimented with the controller’s faceplates to design a DualSense controller to call their very own. A default white PS5 DualSense controller may be turned into an incredible piece of craftsmanship due to easily removable faceplates and buttons.

Reddit user u/FrigidReaper customized his white PS5 DualSense controller by adding a brand-new wood shell, faceplate, LED kit, and set of buttons. Additionally, a rubberized back shell was added for extra comfortable during extended play sessions. The wood grain buttons allow the cyan LED kit so shine through its intricate patterns, which appear to be similar to symbols found in God of War Ragnarok at first glance. However, the button design’s similarities to such symbols seem to be coincidental.
According to u/FrigidReaper, completing the PS5 DualSense controller’s new wooden makeover was surprisingly easy. Many YouTube tutorials for customizing DualSense controllers exist, so the user was able to follow a step-by-step process for installing the LED kit and faceplates. The end result is a custom DualSense controller with a premium wood finish and a comfortable, ergonomic design.
The wooden DualSense controller is stunning with its overall aesthetic and use of LED lighting. The LED lighting does not appear to have a negative effect on battery life according to u/FrigidReaper, so it provides much better controller lighting without compromise. PlayStation will likely release new DualSense controllers in a variety of colors and designs in 2023, and the company could take some notes from the custom wooden DualSense controller.
