Every time a PS5 is in stock, it gets sold out almost immediately irrespective of whether it’s the digital-only version or the more expensive console with a Blu-ray drive. As a result, some users have resorted to buying a PS5 from scalpers for an amount above the market price. Some players likely got tired of waiting for the console to be readily available and ultimately had to get it from a scalper to play PS5 exclusives or the next-gen version of the latest games. However, it looks like PS5 supply issues may be a thing of the past.

As reported by Video Games Chronicle, David Gibson, a senior analyst at MST Financial, studied the shipment from Sony Interactive into the US in September 2022. Gibson states that Sony sent around 7.5 million kilograms of PlayStation products to the US in September 2022, marking a dramatic increase from last year. He confirms that PS5 stock improved by 400% year-over-year, with some of this inventory going into God of War Ragnarok’s launch next month. September’s shipment numbers stand tall when compared to other months in 2022, and players can see the graph steadily increase from May onwards.
Gibson also comments on Microsoft’s performance and estimates that the supply of Xbox Series consoles improved by 89% year-over-year. Although, he claims that the data requires more interpretation. On the other hand, Nintendo shipments in September 2022 are down 59% from September of last year. However, Nintendo uses airfreight as well, so the total may not be down by such a considerable amount.
Other sources also make note of the improved PS5 supply, as GamesIndustry.biz head Christopher Dring mentioned that PS5 availability during September was surprisingly good. Perhaps this is a sign of the supply issues finally coming to an end, and hopefully, more gamers can get their hands on a PS5, or their desired console of choice.
Sony recently increased the PS5’s price in several regions including Europe, the UK, Canada, and other parts of the world. However, it remains to be seen if this price increase will have any impact on PS5 demand.
