CDPR confirmed it was partnering with Epic Games Store to make this new Witcher Game on Unreal Engine 5, also stating that it didn’t intend to make the game exclusive to one storefront. The game’s director, avoidance of crunch, and confirmation that it wasn’t “The Witcher 4” have all been announced, but the teaser image was a question mark.

Some debated whether it was meant to be the School of the Cat, while others said this new Witcher medallion looked more like a Lynx. Now, one dev has confirmed that the medallion does belong to a new School of the Lynx. There’s no official lore about it, but as many discuss it online, it’s clear that some are confusing made content for canon material.

To be absolutely clear, the School of the Lynx has not existed in the Witcher universe prior to this new game. This medallion, in a way, is confirming a new School, and that opens a lot of doors for storytelling. This School of the Lynx could suggest the return of a “lost” school, a new one being formed, or something as complex as a game far removed from the original trilogy—forward or backward in time. This means new Witcher characters to meet and a new, presumably, Witcher character to play as.

However, any stories about the School of the Lynx read online in Wikis and the like right now are all fan-made. If anyone cites The School of the Lynx as being formed by the School of the Cat, as well as Lambert and Keira Metz, then they are not discussing canon material, they are discussing fan-made content. It’s easy to mix the two up, but it’s practically impossible that CDPR is using fan-made content in this game, meaning this School of the Lynx and the new, unknown School simply share a coincidental name.

It’s actually more exciting that the School of the Lynx has nothing known about it in The Witcher universe, because this means it’ll be familiar yet new. Players are going to learn more about CDPR’s Witcher universe whenever the marketing for it begins in full and especially when this game releases. That’s a good thing for all fans.
