The Uncharted series started on the PS3 and has since become a respected series iconic to modern PlayStation systems, taking series protagonist Nathan Drake on adventures around the world. The Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection packages both of the PS4 Uncharted games together, but starting today players can also upgrade their already owned PS4 versions to the Legacy of Thieves Collection versions for $10.

For owners of a physical or digital edition of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy on PS4, upgrading is as simple as purchasing the $10 upgrade on Sony’s online store. The PS4 version’s save data even carries over to the PS5 version. However, PlayStation Plus subscribers will have to buy the games separately before upgrading. This may be a deal-breaker for some considering that the PS4 version of the games already work fine on PS5, but it will be frustrating for players wanting the graphical jump to have to spend extra just to play the best version of the games.
The Uncharted 4 situation parallels when Square Enix would not allow players to upgrade Final Fantasy 7 Remake to its improved version, a decision that was reversed a year later. At the moment it remains unclear whether the same will happen for the PS4 Uncharted games, though it is a distinct possibility.
While the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection improves graphical fidelity, it is, unfortunately, lacking the multiplayer that the PS4 version of Uncharted 4 includes. It may not be a major issue for some players, but it’s still a glaring omission and one that will hopefully be resolved with an update later on. While the multiplayer may not be the most beloved aspect of Uncharted 4, it is still well-liked by some players, and removing it means the game has objectively less content than its now-outdated iteration.
PlayStation 5 owners may be frustrated, but those who have had trouble finding the consoles in the ongoing shortage may not need to worry. A PC version of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is also in development and will hopefully meet the PS5 version’s level of quality. The Uncharted series coming to PC will also finally provide non-PlayStation owners with the opportunity to experience Nathan Drake’s journeys for the first time.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection launches for PS5 on January 28, 2022, and a PC version will be released later in 2022.
