In The Chant, the eponymous rhythmic phrase backfires in some fashion and results in the psychedelic horrors that players face. Prepped with a release window of 2022, The Chant’s survival horror might be set to make a big splash this year still. Recently, The Chant has received a new teaser trailer that depicts all the hallucinogenic and nightmarish imagery players may expect from a spiritual cult retreat.

The Chant’s teaser trailer, which comes from PlayStation’s official account, offers a brief look at what seems like an idyllic island with a peculiar dome structure where individuals gather. Having arrived with the goal of enlightenment, different characters come together on a spiritual journey in similar white outfits before candles on the floor. The tease shows easily missable flashes of eerie imagery if fans blink, such as a humanoid figure with antlers, although only instances of psychological horror are identified in this cinematic teaser.
Characters are aware that a group in the 70s was here before them, which may imply that there are cultish underpinnings to the retreat and the island itself. Further, events become truly horrific when an ethereal presence from another dimension is introduced, dubbed the Gloom, that starts to affect the visitors and their realities. Not much is shared about The Chant’s protagonist, but part of the survival horror experience may likely be understanding why they have chosen to go to this retreat in the first place.
The teaser concludes with a reminder that The Chant is set for Fall 2022. Interestingly, however, developer Brass Token’s website states that the release window is narrowed to October, which would appropriately launch it in the spookiest season around Halloween.
Moreover, The Chant had previously been marketed as a last and next-gen release, but it seems as if it will be next-gen exclusive now, as it states only PS5 as its compatible PlayStation version in the teaser trailer, and not PS4. Until October arrives, fans can subscribe to Koch Media’s newsletter on The Chant’s official website, where they will be entered into a lottery to “win a Spiritual Wellbeing themed pack at launch.”
The Chant is currently scheduled to release in October 2022 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
